William 'Billy' Ridgway
He was a parish councillor of High Ercall for many years and the below items were kindly sent to me by one of his desendants, Dave. The housing estate to the rear of the Cleveland Arms was named after him.
|
This image is from the early 1930s when the estate was sold off. Dave goes on to say:
'My Grandfather (William Henry) purchased plot 27, plot 33 and I think plot 50. All for the princely sum of £274 in 1934.' He goes on to say that plot 33, 50 and part of 27 were compulsory purchased in 1946 and is now Cleveland Avenue. |

This picture was painted by Ellen Steedman and shows High Ercall in the later parts of the 1800s.
Ellen died in 1908. |

These were taken in the late 1960s by Daves dad and shows Reg Austin, who was the local blacksmith at that time shoeing a pair of horses. This wasnt all that Reg did as I recall going with my father to see him on occaision to get various broken metal parts from farm implements repaired for Ercall Park. |
